About Andy

Andy Scheurer is currently director of bands at McCord Middle School and the assistant marching band director at Worthington Kilbourne High School in Worthington, OH. Previously, he had taught at Lebanon Junior High School and Lebanon High School serving as the junior high director of bands and assistant high school director.

In 2006, Andy's wife, Heather, took a job near the Columbus area which prompted Andy to move out of his job in Lebanon. He started independent contracting with Intulogy, a training outsourcing and consulting company. He was asked to become a full-time employee with Intulogy in February 2007 and managed a nationwide pilot project for the retail-financial services division of a large Fortune 500 company. His other project included designing, developing and revising retail sales manuals, developing Adobe Captivate eLearning modules for managers of a Fortune 500 construction company, and working with a marketing company to produce training materials, speaker's notes, and other materials for consultative sessions among a variety of other projects.

Throughout college and into his professional experience, Andy has continued to build skills in education, business, and technology. In college Andy worked briefly with the State News, Michigan State University's student newspaper, doing print and online production as well as web and graphic design. Interestingly, Andy's interest in journalism stretches as far back as 1997 (his freshman year of high school!) when he launched an eZine called "The Track." Andy served as editor, reporter, and publisher until 1999 when he stopped production. These experiences have helped him continue to learn how to code and create graphics for web design. Currently, Andy is working on a variety of web-based projects and potential business start-ups.

A major interest for Andy is leadership, especially for students that lead peer groups. This past summer Andy designed and produced materials and content for a marching band student leader retreat that lead to greater focus and engagement of the organization's leaders. He has been influenced by thought-leaders like Anthony Robbins, Ken Blanchard, and Tim Lautzenheiser. Andy is currently brainstorming and producing additional student leadership materials hopefully to be included in a practical book for peer leaders.

Andy is a member of and has volunteered as a copy editor and contributor for his fraternity, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia. An article was published on the fraternity's online newsletter, "Resonance," in April 2009. As an amateur cyclist and cancer survivor, Andy is now taking on a new challenge. In August 2009 he will ride in the Pelotonia 180-mile two-day race to raise awareness and support for the James Hospital at The Ohio State University. To ride, he will raise $2,000 to help fight cancer.

Andy enjoys golfing (and currently has a slowly rising 8 handicap, but planning on being a scratch golfer by summer's end), cooking, eating, trying new beers and wines, savoring bourbons and scotches, spending time with his wife, Heather, and Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier, Grainger. He is an internet "addict" who maintains this site, a Facebook profile, and a regular Twitter stream. Jokingly, he says he has a case of "Techno-lust," always wanting to own or experience the latest technology. Andy hopes to start a MBA or masters in organizational development and/or human resources within the next few years.
